Stölzle Lausitz Experience Red: The Professional's Choice

Elevate your cellar selection with the glass designed for sensory precision. The Stölzle Lausitz Experience Red Wine Glass is the ultimate tool for the modern connoisseur, blending technical excellence with a striking, architectural silhouette.

Why it's a cut above:

  • The Perfect Aeration: The low-slung, wide-point bowl creates a massive surface area, allowing your reds to breathe instantly.
  • Aromatic Focus: The dramatic taper at the rim concentrates complex bouquets, delivering every nuance of the fruit and spice directly to your palate.
  • Seamless Pulled Stem: Unlike inferior glasses, the Experience stem is pulled directly from the bowl. This creates a single, fluid piece of crystal that is as strong as it is elegant.
  • German Engineering: Crafted in the Lausitz region with lead-free crystal, these glasses are brilliant, resonant, and remarkably break-resistant.

Frequently asked questions

Is this glass made of real crystal?
Yes. All Stölzle Lausitz glassware is crafted from 100% lead-free crystal. You get the stunning brilliance, clarity, and the signature musical "ping" of traditional crystal, but with modern safety and increased durability.

Is it actually dishwasher safe?
Absolutely. The Experience series is designed for professional use in high-end restaurants. It is certified for over 1,000 dishwasher cycles without scratching or "clouding," provided it is loaded correctly to prevent clinking.

What specific wines are best for this glass?
While it is an excellent "Universal" red glass, its shape is specifically optimized for medium-to-full-bodied reds. It excels with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah (Shiraz), and Zinfandel. The wide bowl allows these bolder wines the space they need to breathe.

How does the "Experience" glass compare to hand-blown brands like Zalto or Riedel?
The Experience line offers a "best of both worlds" value. It features the pulled-stem technology found in expensive hand-blown glasses (meaning there is no seam between the bowl and stem), but because it is machine-made in Germany, it is significantly more durable and affordable for daily use.

Will these glasses fit in a standard kitchen cabinet?
At 8.85 inches (225 mm) tall, the Experience Red fits in most standard modern cabinetry. We recommend measuring your shelf height before ordering if you have older, lower-profile cabinets.

Why is there no seam on the stem?
That is the mark of a high-quality glass. Stölzle uses a "pulled stem" process where the stem is drawn out of the bowl while the glass is still molten. This creates a single, fluid piece that is not only more elegant to hold but also structurally stronger than glasses where the stem is glued on.

Where is this glassware manufactured?
Every glass in the Experience series is 100% Made in Germany at Stölzle’s facility in the Lausitz region, which has over 130 years of glassmaking heritage.

How to care for Stolzle Crystal

Stölzle crystal is certified for 1,000+ dishwasher cycles without clouding. For best results:

  • Give them space: Ensure glasses are not touching each other or other dishes to prevent "chatter" and chipping during the cycle.
  • Use the top rack: Secure the stems in the glass holder if your dishwasher has one.
  • Cool down: Allow the glasses to cool slightly before removing them; crystal is most vulnerable when it is extremely hot.

2. Hand-Washing (The Sommelier’s Way)

If you prefer hand-washing, follow these steps to avoid the most common cause of breakage:

  • Temperature: Use lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free detergent.
  • Avoid the "Twist": Never hold the glass by the base while scrubbing the inside of the bowl. This creates torque that can snap the stem. Always cradle the bowl in your palm while cleaning.
  • Non-Abrasive: Use a soft sponge or microfiber cloth; avoid scouring pads.

3. Polishing for Brilliance

To achieve that Michelin-star sparkle:

  • Steam it: Hold the glass over a pot of steaming water for a few seconds before polishing.
  • Two-Cloth Method: Use two lint-free microfiber cloths—one to hold the glass and one to polish. This prevents fingerprints from transferring back onto the crystal.
  • The Rim: Be extra gentle with the rim, as it is the thinnest and most delicate part of the glass.

4. Proper Storage

  • Upright is Best: Store your glasses upright. Storing them upside down on their rims can trap stale air and moisture, and places the entire weight of the glass on its most delicate point.
