All the hallmarks of Caymus — rich, ripe, and supple — drawn from California's most compelling vineyard sites.
Introduced with the 2021 vintage, the California appellation bottling represents the Wagner family's exploration beyond Napa Valley — sourcing from stone-laden sites across Paso Robles, Monterey, San Benito, and Lake County. The winemaking team targets south-facing slopes where vines struggle against the terrain, balanced by cooling maritime breezes from the Pacific. The result: smaller berries, thicker skins, and the rich colour and supple tannins that define the Caymus house style.
Tasting Notes
Deep aromas of ripe blackberry, cassis, black cherry, and dark plum, layered with cocoa, vanilla, espresso, and sweet baking spice. The palate is full-bodied and velvety — soft, polished tannins carry concentrated dark fruit through a creamy, lush texture to a long, smooth finish. Compared to earlier California iterations, the 2023 leans into juicier blackberry and currant drive with a spice kick at the close, dialling back the front-end oakiness for a more fruit-forward expression.
The Finish
Long, smooth, and generous — the kind of finish that confirms this wine is built for immediate enjoyment rather than the cellar. No hard edges, no austerity. Just the Caymus character, delivered in a California key.
What the Critics Say
