Since 1972, Chuck Wagner has made one thing at Caymus: Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Special Selection is the pinnacle of that singular focus — assembled each year from only the finest barrels on the estate, it represents five decades of accumulated knowledge about what Rutherford ground is capable of producing. The 2020 vintage, shaped by a warm and concentrated growing season, delivers everything the label promises.

Tasting Notes

Deep and inviting on the nose, with dark plum, blackcurrant, and a whisper of dark chocolate that draws you in before the first sip. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and generous, with an intensity of dark fruit that never tips into heaviness — held in check by the estate's signature fine-grained, velvety tannins. The texture is the story here: plush and seamless, with none of the grip that lesser mountain Cabernets can show at this stage.

The Finish

Long and deeply satisfying, with dark berry, mocha, and a touch of cedar carrying through to a close that lingers well after the glass is empty. Approachable now, and structured to reward patience through 2035.
