Old vines don't shout — they simply have more to say.
Gary Farrell Winery has been one of Russian River Valley's most respected names since 1982, and winemaker Theresa Heredia has continued that legacy with a precise, vineyard-driven approach. The Olivet Lane Vineyard is one of the appellation's most celebrated sites — 40+ year old vines that produce fruit of natural concentration and textural richness that no winemaking technique can replicate. The 2022 is a beautiful expression of what old-vine Chardonnay from this corner of Sonoma is capable of.
Tasting Notes
A brilliant straw yellow in the glass, with rich aromas of Meyer lemon, white flower petals, and lemongrass over a warm pastry note that adds depth without heaviness. On the palate, the old-vine concentration is immediately apparent — ripe citrus fruit with a mouth-coating creaminess that feels effortless rather than extracted. Firm acidity keeps everything focused and prevents the richness from tipping into excess.
The Finish
Persistent and creamy, with lemon confit and a whisper of honeysuckle carrying through to a clean, lingering close. Ready to drink now and will reward cellaring through 2028.
What the Critics Say
- James Suckling: 91 points — "Creamy mouthfeel and firm acidity, giving flavors of canned peaches, honeysuckle and sweet spices."
