Not an imitation — a conversation across hemispheres.
Côte-Rôtie, the legendary Northern Rhône appellation, built its reputation on a single idea: that co-fermenting Syrah with a small addition of white Viognier produces something neither grape could achieve alone. Keller Estate's Rôtie is an homage to that tradition, grown on the windswept Petaluma Gap where cool Pacific air and volcanic soils give the fruit a precision and aromatic lift that mirrors the best of the Rhône. The 2020 is 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier — co-fermented, as tradition demands.
Tasting Notes
The Viognier announces itself immediately on the nose — violet, white peach, and a floral lift that softens the Syrah's darker instincts. On the palate, dark plum and cracked black pepper are the core, but the texture is the revelation: soft, elegant, and seamless in a way that pure Syrah rarely achieves at this weight. The co-fermentation does exactly what it's supposed to — it tempers without diminishing.
The Finish
Floral and persistent, with dark fruit and a whisper of white pepper carrying through to a clean, elegant close. Best enjoyed from 2024 onward as the wine continues to integrate.
