100% Petit Verdot — no blending components, no compromise. Madrigal at its most focused.
Petit Verdot is Napa Valley's most underestimated grape — planted primarily as a blending component in Bordeaux-style wines, it is rarely bottled on its own. Madrigal Family Winery, under winemaker Chris Madrigal, has championed it as a standalone variety for years, and the 2019 is the purest expression of that conviction: 100% Petit Verdot, unblended, at 14.5% ABV. Where the 2018 draws on Bordeaux blending tradition, the 2019 is a statement of varietal confidence.
Tasting Notes
Violet, dark plum, and espresso open the nose with characteristic Petit Verdot intensity. On the palate, concentrated dark fruit is framed by firm, focused tannins and a mineral tension that gives the wine genuine definition. The 100% varietal composition means there is nowhere to hide — and nothing needs hiding. This is Petit Verdot at its most direct and most compelling.
The Finish
Long and mineral, with dark berry and a savoury persistence carrying through to a clean, structured close. Built to reward cellaring through 2031.
